HCG hospital Mumbai in association with Oman cancer Association and GTS conducted an very informative international accredited CME - update on generic and medical oncology at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Muscat.
The topic of the CME was Genetic Profiling, Importance in standard part of Cancer Care with a special focus on recent advancement in cancer care.
The CME was graced by Dr Wahid Al Kharusi, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chairman of Oman Cancer Association , Dr Bassim Al Bahrani Senior Consultant, Medical Oncologist who is a well renowned Lead in Medical Oncology and advances in oncology.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Sachin Trivedi, director of Medical Oncology at HCG Mumbai. He is also the ex head of oncology services at Nottingham University Hospitals in the UK. He spoke on the topic of the role of comprehensive gene profiling ( expanded genetic tests) in successful management of cancer. He emphasised the importance of collaboration in scientific exchanges and possibilities of leverage clinical skill set between colleagues in Oman and India.
During the question and answer sessions, several interesting topics, such as screening and early detection, were discussed. Dr Trivedi promised to return to Oman again to strengthen ties with colleagues and people of Oman.
The other keynote speaker was Dr Vijayashree Murthy, Consultant Breast Surgeon HCG Hospital Mumbai. While breast cancer numbers are increasing all over the world, awareness about screening and early detection still remains a challenge. Education programs about breast cancer early signs and symptoms and advantages of screening for early detection was the key focus of the discussion. She also discussed about the different surgical approaches for management of early as well as advanced breast cancer including different forms of scarless/ hidden scar techniques and reconstruction using patients own tissue versus implants. All this is essential to reinstall a woman’s body image and confidence and ability to get back to a normal life.
Team OCA and GTS extended their gratitude to HCG hospital for facilitating this academic initiative and OCA chairman Dr. Wahid Al Kharusi honoured both doctors for this wonderful educative session.
