The talk is focused on the surgical treatment
of Parkinson’s Disease with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery. The
presentation will touch upon the criteria for patient selection, benefits,
risks and other nuances of DBS surgery. An awareness about the nuances of a successful
DBS surgery programme will be shared. The use of latest technology advanced
techniques of tractographic targeting, electrophysiological monitoring, LFP
sensing, directional stimulation and intraoperative O-Arm would be
introduced. The talk also highlights the recent advances in DBS surgeries for
Parkinson’s disease in form of newer devices, brain sensing technology and
state of the art imaging softwares. Finally, the concept of “DBS
Troubleshooting Clinic” at KDAH will be shared with the gathering which
caters to patients who have undergone
DBS surgeries in the past at any centre worldwide and have inadequate benefit
from DBS therapy. These patients are reviewed, corrected, reprogrammed and
optimised to get better outcomes from their existing DBS devices. |
